ელფრიკის თარგმანი, "დაბადება" XXVII, 1-29
თანამედროვე ინგლისური თარგმანი
When Isaac was old and his eyes were too dim to see anything, then he called Esau his elder son,
And said to him: “you see that I am old and I do not know the day of my death.
Take your gear, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me, that you think I will like.
Bring it to me that I may eat, so that I may bless you before I die”.
Now Rebekah heard that; and Esau went to the field,
Then she said to Jacob her son, “I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, saying,
‘Bring me some game, so that I may bless you before the Lord before I die'.
My son, listen to me as I command you:
Go to the flock and bring me two kids of the goats, so that I may prepare them as a savoury dish for your father, such as he loves.
Then, as you bring it to your father, he will bless you before he dies”.
Then he said to her: “But you know that Esau my brother is a hairy man and I am a smooth man.
If my father touches me and recognizes me, I fear that I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing”.
And his mother said to him, "My son, be the curse upon me: do what I say to you; go and get what I told you.”
And he went and brought them and gave them to his mother, and she prepared them, just the way she knew his father liked it.
And she took the best garments, which she had in the house, and put them on Jacob;
And covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the skins of the kids of the goats.
And she gave him the food, which she had made and the bread, and he brought that to his father.
And said, “My father”. He answered and said, “Who are you, my son?”
And Jacob said, “I am Esau your firstborn son; I have done as you told me. Arise, sit and eat of my game, so that you may bless me”.
Then Isaac said to his son, “How could you find it so quickly, my son?” and he answered and said, “It was God’s will that I so quickly came across what I wanted to”.
And Isaac said: “Come close, that I may feel you, my son, and see, whether you are my son Esau or not”.
He went close to his father, and Isaac said, when he had felt him, “The voice indeed is the voice of Jacob, and the hands are the hands of Esau”.
And he did not recognize him, because the hairy hands were like those of the elder brother. He then blessed him
And said, “Are you my son Esau?” and he said, “Yes, my dear, I am”.
Then he said, “Bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may bless you”. When he brought the game, he also brought him wine; after he had drunk,
Then he said to him, “My son, come here and kiss me”.
He came close and kissed him; and when he bent down to him, he then blessed him and said, “Now the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed.
May God give you of heaven's dew and of the fatness of the earth, and an abundance of wheat and wine.
May all peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you; be lord over your brothers, and may your mother’s sons bow down to you; cursed be those who curse you, and blessed be those who bless you”.
